Software Engineer

Byterat (YC W23) is a next-generation data platform for battery labs, purpose-built to manage, visualize and analyze battery data securely at scale.

We're a team of physicists, software engineers and computer scientists (with backgrounds from Cambridge, Carnegie Mellon, Rivian etc) united by a passion for helping battery engineers innovate and scale their technologies more quickly and joyfully.

OUR MISSION

  • Batteries play a fundamental role in tackling climate change. $73B was invested in US battery plants in 2022, and battery company revenue is expected to grow >5x over the next decade.

  • Global carmakers alone are forecast to spend $515B on electric vehicle and battery R&D by 2030. But battery engineers are currently underserved by software, relying on broken legacy products to analyze their data.

  • Byterat solves this problem with a modern cloud platform that allows teams to analyze data from thousands of parallel experiments and unlock previously hidden insights connecting battery design to performance.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 1+ years software engineering experience, ideally in a "start-up" like environment where you have taken full ownership for projects and taken products from 0-1 and 1-10

  • You care about the problems our customers face and are excited to distill their insights into tangible product improvements

  • You are excited to move and grow fast, take ownership and challenge yourself in ways that are hard to replicate at other places

  • Hard-working, team oriented, cooperative, ambitious, adaptable, and good at problem-solving

  • Someone with the rare ability to understand business logic and translate it into expected technical behavior/requirements

THE ROLE

  • Performing and optimizing client onboarding and integration

  • Gaining a thorough comprehension of Byterat's technology and its underlying architectures through troubleshooting, replicating, and pinpointing the root cause of customer-reported problems

  • Creating tools aimed at expediting diagnosis to enhance the prompt identification and resolution of future issues.

  • Functioning as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders within engineering, sales, and customers, dedicated to overcoming technical deployment challenges and enhancing overall performance.

  • Prioritizing, tracking, and voicing client needs to the rest of the engineering team

  • Coordinating with cross functional teams to streamline operational processes

  • You'll also be helping to shape an exceptional engineering culture at Byterat and cultivate practices that will set us up for success.

OUR CURRENT TECH STACK

  • Django with heavy tasks on Lambda.

  • GraphQL Server Apollo Client

  • React, Apollo Client, Redux in Typescript on Next.JS

  • Docker compose for dev, AWS and Terraform for staging / prod.

  • Event based processing and streaming ETLs

  • Single Table and Relational Database Models

  • 15 minute intro call with our founder to get to know each other.

  • 3-4h take-home coding challenge followed by a 1h discussion with our eng team. We've distilled our platform to 1k loc, and the challenge is to explain how it works and implement a new feature.

  • 30 minute live coding challenge.

  • 30 minute call or in-person meeting with our founder.

  • Offer!
